Where to Stay in Savannah

Savannah is a historic city with many beautiful inns, hotels and property rentals. We always book a vacation rental on our visits to Savannah. There are many options to choose from so you can find something to suit everyone’s needs. We love renting properties in historic cities because it is a great way to feel right at home in a beautiful city. Two of our favorite rentals from recent stays are featured below.

Lucky Savannah Vacation Rentals

Liberty Landing Too with Lucky Savannah Vacation Rentals is a great choice for two adults. We chose this rental for its central location in the historic district, beautiful open living area and luxury accommodations. The unit is even more beautiful that the photos on their site and exceeded all of my expectations. The unit is well suited for two adults as it offers one bedroom, a small living area and kitchen.

Beautiful natural light fills the main living area. Stay for the weekend or even a week in this unit made for two or rent one of the many other properties in Savannah suitable for large families or a girl’s weekend getaway.

Southern Belle Vacation Rentals

We also really love Southern Belle Vacation Rentals and stayed in their Lady Gwinnett property located near Forsyth Park during another visit. This unit is perfect for families. It’s a newer home (built in 2018 – I think!) and it offers three bedrooms on two floors. The property is spacious and located only a few blocks from Forsyth Park, which is why we chose this property. While it’s further walking distance from Broughton Street and River Street, we rented electric bikes from Savannah on Wheels and explored the entire city easily. Savannah on Wheels is less than two blocks from the home, which is one of the reasons we love this location.

The Lady Gwinnett property is beautiful and spacious. There is also private parking in a gated lot behind the home, another bonus to this property than many properties in Savannah don’t offer! We always love having a kitchen when we travel to make small meals and store snacks, especially when we travel as a family.

Best restaurants in Savannah

If you’re looking for the best places to eat in Savannah, then you came to the right place! We haven’t tried every restaurant in Savannah but we are sharing a few of our favorites from past visits to the city.

(1) The Ordinary Pub

The Ordinary Pub on Broughton Street in Savannah is anything but ordinary. We love the laid back vibe and the food. The menu includes reimagined pub fare. Things like burgers, tacos, grits and meatloaf all make an appearance on the menu with fun culinary twists and flavor pairings. The Duck & Baguette small plate and the Ropa Vieja steak tacos were two of our favorites. This is one of our favorite places to grab drinks too. The vibe, food and drinks all make this place one of our favorite spots in Savannah.

(2) Back in the Day Bakery

Although it is difficult to choose a favorite among so many great restaurants in Savannah, Back in the Day Bakery is very close to the top. We love visiting for their endless sweet treats and fresh baked goods. The sandwiches, freshly baked pastries and delectable buttermilk biscuits are too good to resist. We also really love the turmeric orange juice.

If you don’t eat anything else while you are in Savannah, you need to eat at least one build-your-own biscuit from Back in the Day Bakery. We ordered a light and fluffy biscuit with butter, jam and bacon. Try a biscuit with your own custom fillings!

(3) Mirabelle Cafe

Mirabelle Cafe overlooks the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist so it is a great place to stop and enjoy a sweet treat while you are exploring the historic district. Make sure to stop in for Savannah’s only location for authentic liege waffles.

(4) The Olde Pink House Savannah

Before our visit to Savannah, many people recommended that we visit The Olde Pink House for dinner. The restaurant is not only an iconic landmark in Savannah but also a must-visit on any trip. Explore each of the unique rooms of the home to take a step back into history and enjoy authentic southern cuisine. We highly recommend the fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits are unlike anything I ever tasted before. The shrimp is layered upon a fried grits cake and served with creamy sauce.

(5) Leopold’s Ice Cream

A trip to Savannah is not complete without a visit to Leopold’s Ice Cream. Don’t be intimidated by the line out the door. It moves quickly and is well worth any wait. Most of the current flavors are the same that were available when Leopold’s was founded in 1919. We highly recommend a double scoop of the Honey Almond & Cream ice cream. It is made with local Savannah honey and is too good to resist!

(6) The Collins Quarter

Our favorite spot for brunch in Savannah is The Collins Quarter. The location on Bull Street is a great place to start the day. I order the turmeric latte and avocado toast every single time, but we have tried many of their dishes and everything is fresh, wholesome and delicious. It’s a busy location, especially on the weekends, so we recommend reservations so you don’t miss this spot. The main dining area is light, bright and welcoming. You will not be disappointed with The Collins Quarter for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

(7) Cotton & Rye

Cotton & Rye is a newer restaurant that we added to the list on our last visit to Savannah. We recommend reservations as it is busy for dinner. It’s located in an old bank so it has a unique flair and ambiance. Highly recommend the crispy chicken wings to start, any of the salads and sides. While the main dishes are great, the sides are full of vegetables (which I love) and packed with so much good flavor. They are definitely an unexpected surprise!

(8) The Fox & Fig Cafe (Plant Based / Vegan cafe)

We discovered this little gem on our self guided bike tour of Savannah. The Fox & Fig Cafe is located on the corner of Troupe square. It’s plant based and you will find something for everyone! The drinks, pastries and main dishes are all so good. We can’t wait to go back to this place.

(9) Farmer’s Market at Forsyth Park

Meet and greet local farmers at the Forsyth Park Farmer’s Market open on Saturday mornings at Forsyth Park. Stop by for local honey, vegetables and more.

(10) Classes by Kessler Cooking School

One of the best experiences in Savannah is the Classes by Kessler located at the Mansion on Forsyth Park. We really love this experience because it is great for anyone and is the perfect activity to enjoy as a couple or with a large group of friends.

Foodie's Guide to Savannah featuring 700 Kitchen Cooking School

We chose the Farmer’s Market Tour class because we loved the idea of shopping for locally grown, fresh produce at the Forsyth Park Farmer’s Market and then preparing a meal from the ingredients. With 16 people, the class was fun, laid-back and casual. It was a mix between a demonstration class and a hands on class. The Chef featured an engaging class fit for everyone.

While we always love any opportunity to spend time in the kitchen with an executive chef, there is no pressure at all to prepare or cook the food. Grab the knives and start prepping fresh collard greens and sliced bread or sit back, relax and enjoy watching the chef prepare a delectable Low Country meal.

The best part of the class was the end, of course! After all of the meal prep and cooking is complete, everyone gathers around a long wooden table to enjoy a taste of Savannah with perfectly cooked steak, shrimp, grits, greens and more. If we had to choose only one activity to enjoy while in Savannah, the Cooking School is definitely my choice.
